Brazil recognizes practice of Ozone Therapy in Dentistry (2015)

  • The Federal Council of Dentistry (FCO) recognized the ozone therapy.
  • Graduate professionals in dentistry must have a minimum of 32 hours ozone therapy course of promoted by a higher education institution duly registered with the Ministry of Education and recognized by CFO.

 

According to the Brazilian legislation the recognition of medical therapies is made by the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) and the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO).

At the request of the Dental Department of the Brazilian Association of Ozone Therapy (ABOZ) the CFO decided to recognize and regulate the use by dentist practice of ozone therapy by Resolution 166 of November 24, 2015

Based on this resolution the Federal Council of Dentistry approved the Annex Resolution CFO-166/2015 whereby, among other subjects, indicates (art. II) areas of application of ozone therapy in dentistry. Also it prescribes to the graduate professional in dentistry and registered with the Regional Council of Dentistry a minimum of 32 hours course in classes of ozone therapy promoted by a higher education institution duly registered with the Ministry of Education and recognized by CFO.

AEPROMO (Spanish Association of Medical Professionals in Ozone Therapy) and IMEOF (International Medical Ozone Federation) have been providing legal assistance to ABOZ with the aim of the regularization of this therapy by the authorities.
